Laptop mod

Introduction

"lapmod" is a laptop modification. It puts the laptop into a painting-like frame so you can hang it on the wall or set it straight onto a solid surface.
This project was done in August 2002.
My apologies for the poor quality of the pictures.

System specifications

Photo report

The laptop before the surgery:

Removing the keyboard by removing all screws at the bottom first:

Take away everything that can easily be removed. In this case the trackball:

I liked the part where I could take the screen apart from the laptop:

Here I've removed the lights and I wrote down where they were for:

The motherboard is taken out of it's plastic 'shell':

Switching the laptop on ... and yes: it still works!
Note that this is only the motherboard and the harddisk.
I even heard Windows 95 starting up:

I've isolated the wires, which I've cut from the battery connection:

In this picture had taken out the LCD and the
contrast/backlight controller. It wasn't an easy job:

I had to make the LCD-to-motherboard cable about
15cm longer else I wouldn't be able to place the
parts on the plexiglass like planned to do.

Testing again, now with the longer LCD cable. Everything works fine
except for the 'no keyboard attached' error:

These are the two pieces of plexiglass.
The LCD and motherboard will be mounted on them:

To put both parts of plexiglass at a safe distance to
avoid shortcircuits you should use a large hexagon screws.
I used M6x80mm

Another 2 hours of work: drilling holes, and fitting it
all together... it was worth all the work!
